Barca President Joan Laporta has named 15 teams ready to participate in the Super League, and hopes the tournament can start next season.

At the end of last year, the Court of Justice of the European Union determined that FIFA and UEFA had violated fair competition laws by preventing the establishment of the European Super League in 2021.
At that time, 12 major European teams suddenly planned to create a breakaway tournament. However, due to opposition from the government and fans, 10 clubs withdrew one by one. After that, the project only had 2 members: Barca and Real Madrid.
Yesterday, Barca President Joan Laporta named 15 teams ready to participate in the Super League and confirmed that “the tournament can start next season or the 2025-26 season”.
“In addition to Barca and Real Madrid, the Super League will have Serie A teams such as Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli and AS Roma. Besides, there are also French teams such as Olympique Marseille and 3 Portuguese teams: Sporting, Benfica and Porto.
Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV of the Netherlands will also participate. And also Bruges and Anderlecht from Belgium. I still hope to have one more member to make 16 teams participate. Anyway, all 15 teams above are happy to participate in the Super League project,” the 61-year-old owner shared with Catalan radio station RAC 1.
After the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Premier League giants such as MU, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea… simultaneously announced that they would not participate in the Super League. “I don’t care whether English clubs participate or not. They already have the Premier League,” Joan Laporta emphasized.
Besides, Laporta also criticized UEFA: “The players, brokers and UEFA are getting richer day by day. On the contrary, football teams are being destroyed every day. We don’t get what we deserve in top European tournaments like the Champions League.”
