Man Utd face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend and the result could have huge implications on the title race.
Erik ten Hag says he is fully focused on defeating Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, even if it means handing local rivals Man City a huge advantage in the title race.
United are on course for their worst ever finish in the Premier League era and know their hopes of qualifying for Europe next season will likely hinge on defeating their noisy neighbours in the FA Cup final later this month.
However, they could still have a huge say in where the top-flight trophy ends up. Heading into the final week of the league campaign, United know that victory over Mikel Arteta’s side on Sunday afternoon could all but end their opponents title hopes and hand Man City the shot at winning an unprecedented fourth title in a row.
While some supporters won’t care who ends up winning the title this season, there are many who would much rather see Arsenal triumph, even if it means yet another defeat for United in the process.
Asked whether some fans might actually find it hard to support United defeating Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, Ten Hag joked: “You have to ask them!”
“I would say, they always support us. I have already expressed this now several times. We are there together, we are unified. Definitely, we need it also because we are in a very difficult situation lately and also on Sunday. We will put a team out, with a good plan and I’m sure the players will fight. I hope the fans will back us again.”
